The Wishing Well
The Wishing Well (2020)
Role: Artist — Installation & Digital Curation
The Wishing Well was a multisensory light and sound installation first developed during my MA in Contemporary Performance Practice at the University of East London. Designed as an oasis in the midst of urban life, the work offered a space for reflection, care, and self-connection.
At the centre stood a hand-built wishing well, topped with an umbrella that caught dripping water to create a soothing soundscape. I composed an original track of layered notes and harmonies — informed by research into sound and mental health — to encourage calm and creative focus. Scented and unscented notes were suspended from the ceiling, each inviting visitors to choose, write, and release a private wish. When dropped into the water, the notes dissolved — a ritual of letting go, existing only for the individual.
Light projections, inspired by the movement of water, enveloped the space with flowing patterns that evoked safety and relaxation. Visitors entered quietly, immersing themselves in an intimate world away from the demands of the city.
The project also expanded into digital curation and storytelling, with an online narrative and participatory performance that extended the experience beyond the physical installation. Since its initial creation, The Wishing Well has travelled in smaller forms, reimagined for weddings, performance festivals, and exhibitions in the UK and Sweden.
